Strabane District Council, through its’ Economic Development Department has been striving to lead, lobby and develop the economy of its district for the benefit of its citizens.
Economic Development in Strabane covers a diverse range of initiatives both delivered in house and contract funded. It also lobbies for investment and infrastructure for the areas through the Strabane Employment Task.
Economic Development, in partnership with the EU Building Sustainable Prosperity Programme, funds a range of initiatives such as: -
- A Community Workspace project assisting the creation of approximately 40,000 sq. ft. of business space throughout the district thereby creating and sustaining up to 30 jobs
- Programmes to assist businesses expand and develop through contract-funded operators.
- Regeneration initiatives funded such as Newtownstewart Townscape Heritage Initiative, Strabane 2000 and the Exhibition Centre – together they have created up to 25 temporary construction jobs in the district and when complete will create up to 7 full-time jobs as well as creating leverage funding in the district worth nearly £4 million.
- Partnership working to develop business/education projects within the district for schools and business integration for the long-term benefit of our young people and industry.
- Partnership working with Invest NI, Department of Employment and Learning and the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment.
