Business Development – An Economic Driver For Change
Business creates the prosperity that is the bedrock for employment and for the quality of life of everyone. The past few years have provided mixed providence to Strabane District. However, pride of place must go to our newest industry in Strabane. Northbrook Technology came to Strabane in August 2004 and to date they are employing over 300 people in their ‘state of the art’ new Shared Services Centre at Orchard Road. They have been particularly supportive of Strabane in employing over 100 people directly from the unemployment register through the Bridge to Employment Programme delivered by the Department of Employment and Learning. This is a great credit, not only to the company but also to a skilled workforce many of whom had to make the transition from the textile industry to their present occupations with Northbrook. No doubt this industry will continue to grow in the future and the confidence that the firm has shown in Strabane and its workers will prove to have been well founded. It is also a credit to Invest Northern Ireland and to all the other organisations that played a big part in attracting this industry to Strabane.
