Board launches PoIicing and Community Safety Partnerships (PCSPs) Independent Member appointment Campaign

The Northern Ireland Policing Board today commenced the process to appoint 237 Independent Members to the new Policing and Community Safety Partnerships (PCSPs) across the 26 Council areas.

STRABANE CAGE SOCCER
Strabane Community Safety Partnership, in conjunction with Strabane DPP, Strabane PSNI, and Strabane District Council’s Good Relations Department will be delivering Strabane Cage Soccer, a creative and innovative approach to tackling Anti Social Behaviour initially over the summer and thereafter throughout the year. Cage Soccer is a football coaching session with emphasis on developing individual skills, special tricks, exhibition football and goal scoring techniques. It is suitable for boys and girls aged 8 to 17 years old.

EMPOWER PROGRAMME A GREAT SUCCESS

Strabane Community Safety Partnership held a graduation ceremony to mark the ending of one of the Empower Programme’s currently being delivered across the District. The programme which is being delivered by The Adventure Team, enables young people to address issues relating to antisocial behaviour and youth crime enabling young people to make life choices, and develop personal skills and abilities.

STRABANE ATHLETIC WIN MIDNIGHT STREET SOCCER NATIONAL FINALS
Strabane Community Safety Partnership’s Midnight Street Soccer finished on Saturday night. The programme has taken place over 8 weeks this year from 9.30pm to 12 midnight on Friday nights. Youth were given the opportunity to become involved in the 5 a side Soccer Competition on the Astroturf at Melvin or to take part in the Hip Hop workshops in the main hall at Melvin.

HALLOWEEN SAFETY SCHOOL POSTER
COMPETITION PRIZE- GIVING
Strabane Community Safety Partnership held a poster competition for Primary and Post-Primary schools throughout the district at Halloween. The pupils were asked to design a poster illustrating what anti social behaviour at Halloween means to them and how it affects people’s lives in their community. There were over 300 entries from both the Primary and Post Primary schools.

VOLTAGE Championship Finals

Strabane Community Safety Partnership’s Voltage finished on Saturday 28th August with over 450 young people participating throughout the district in 8 heats. The programme is Strabane CSP’s Summer Splash youth diversionary programme, which has been designed to provide young people with activities to combat the temptation of becoming involved in anti social behaviour. Voltage was specifically designed to provide activities in the evening time and in locations where youths congregate.

'Voltage' Leaves Youth Buzzing

Strabane Community Safety Partnership’s Voltage kicked off in Clady on Wednesday night with over 60 young people participating. Parents, Community Representatives and local Councillors looked on as the teams competed against each other in the Laser Tag Tournament to book a place in the Championship Final on Saturday 28th August.

‘VOLTAGE’ Strabane Laser Tag Championship

This month Strabane Community Safety Partnership will be providing their Summer Splash Youth Diversionary Programme called ‘Voltage’. Voltage is a FREE Laser Tag Championship, which will see district wide heats in eight different locations over a three week period. There are two sections of the competition. The Junior section caters for 10 to 16 year olds and the Senior section caters for 16-24 year olds.

Clean Neighbourhood Programme
Strabane Community Safety Partnerships Clean Neighbourhood programme will tackle environmental anti-social behaviour, specifically the areas of graffiti, fly posting, litter, fly tipping, noise nuisance, vandalism and dog fouling. Elements of the programme include an awareness raising campaign utilising Strabane Councils refuse vehicle panels, litter lifts, flower planting and education sessions delivered in local schools.

DANCE FUSION FINAL PERFORMANCE A GREAT SUCCESS

Strabane Community Safety Partnership’s Dance Fusion Final Performance took place in the Alley on Friday 31st July. The youth who had taken part in three weeks of Dance Workshops showcased the skills they had learnt in six different styles of dance to a full capacity audience at the Alley Theatre. The performance was a great way to finish off the massively successful programme which has left the youth of Strabane busting out some moves whether they are in the confines of their home or out in the streets.

Midnight Street Soccer
Monday 16th January 2009
Strabane Community Safety Partnership will hold a Midnight Street Soccer competition in March and April in Melvin Sports Complex, Strabane and in Castlederg High School.
The 5-a-side league will run on Friday nights from 9-12pm, and will last for six weeks, beginning on Friday 6th March 2009. Places are limited to 10 teams per facility and teams will be required to have seven players aged 14-18 years of age and a leader aged 18 or over. The winning teams will receive a full football kit, winners medals, and will travel to Dundalk in June to compete in the Midnight Street Soccer ‘5-A-Side Championship’ National Finals.

Bees Get Busy in Strabane

Local primary schools are buzzing with an initiative designedto encourage children to adopt good safety habits.
A group of over 450 P7 pupils from 24 local primary schools enjoyed a unique, interactive learning experience last week, when they took part in the District’s first ever ‘Bee Safe’ event. Held at Melvin Sports Complex and organised by Strabane Community Safety Partnership, the young participants were instructed on how to stay safe using a combination of both role play and real-life scenarios.

Taking The Drama Out Of Anti-Social Behaviour

A drama production entitled ‘BURN’ took centre stage in Strabane’s Alley Theatre on Tuesday 26th and Wednesday 27th February 2008.
Strabane Community Safety Partnership commissioned the drama department of North West Regional College to produce a play looking at Alcohol and its effect on anti-social behaviour and the consequences of such behaviour.

Message In A Bottle

'Message in a bottle' is a voluntary scheme intended for use by anyone with a medical condition or who feels vulnerable while living at home. The scheme provides emergency services or carers with vital details of any conditions, medicines or allergies as well as contact details on next of kin or neighbours to be contacted in the event of an emergency.

The Get Home Safe campaign is to ensure that people go out and have a great time in Strabane district and return to their homes safely. The campaign is also aimed at help reducing the instances of alcohol related assault by encouraging people to think twice about how they get home at the end of their evening and encourage people to realise that they are responsible for their own actions.

Spotlight On Underage/Binge Drinking
